A calm place to check in with yourself.
Stillmind helps you notice how you’ve been feeling lately, understand it in plain language, and choose a gentle next step.
What Stillmind does
You answer a short set of questions. Stillmind estimates your depression symptom level on a five-step scale, Minimal, Mild, Moderate, Moderately severe or Severe, and suggests a next step: small self-care steps, sharing your result with a clinician, or finding professional help. Your history shows how things change over time, and the assistant can help you talk things through.
How a check-in works
- Part 1, feelings (10 questions): how satisfied you are with life, and how you felt yesterday.
- Part 2, stress (10 questions): how often things felt out of your control over the last month.
- Part 3, worry (7 questions): how often worry and tension bothered you over the last 2 weeks.
A final safety question asks about thoughts of self-harm. It is not used for the estimate; if you answer yes, Stillmind shows ways to reach support right away.
The questions and their answer options are shown in English in every language. They come from published questionnaires, and a translation has to be checked by experts before it can be used.
About the estimate
The estimate comes from a machine learning model called Random Forest, which combines many simple decision trees. The 27 questions were chosen with a method called Information Gain, which keeps the questions that tell the levels apart best. The model was trained and tested on survey responses from university students, where each person’s level came from the PHQ-9, a widely used depression questionnaire.
On each result, “Why this level?” shows which of your answers moved the estimate most. It follows the path your answers took through every decision tree in the forest and adds up how much each answer shifted the result, so it describes how the model reached its estimate, not what is causing how you feel.
Like any estimate, it can be wrong, especially between neighbouring levels such as Mild and Moderate. Details of how the model was built and tested are in the project report.
What it can’t do
Stillmind is a screening tool, not a diagnosis. It can’t tell you whether you have depression, and it doesn’t replace a doctor, psychologist or counsellor. If your result worries you, or you feel worse, please talk to a professional. If you are in danger, get help now.
Privacy in short
You choose whether your check-ins and chats are saved, and only you can see them. The assistant’s replies come from an AI model run by Groq, so your chat messages are sent to Groq; messages about crisis, medication or diagnosis are not. You can export or delete everything, including your account, in Settings. Read the full Privacy Policy.
The project
Stillmind is a final year student project at Management and Science University (MSU), Malaysia, exploring how feature selection can support depression screening. It is built with Next.js, Flask, Supabase and an AI model run by Groq, and hosted on Vercel and Render.
